Personal Pet Peeves

Nothing to blog about, so I'm taking the easy route and posting my pet peeves:

1. Smoking &, even worse, smoking around others --especially your kids-- Second hand smoke DOES kill and IS lethal...people develop cancer from exposure, without being the smoker.  I say, don't even start. But as an aside, I hate the habit, not the person.
2. So-called Enduring & Affectionate Southern pet names, such as "hon," "darling," "suga," "sweetheart," etc.  Yes, I'm from the south, but since leaving my small town and becoming a little more educated on how these terms really imply that the receiver is young, naive, and helpless, I have developed a distate.  I know I look/present much younger than my actual age, but do NOT be fooled...this woman's got intellect and doesn't appreciate the use of these terms to put me in my place or intimidate me.  If you are not my man, my mom, or any extension of family/friend..thanks, but NO thanks!
3. Profanity.  There's nothing worse, in my opinion, than people feeling the need to use such words to prove that they are tough, grown, or should be taken seriously.  Just because you can roll these off of your tongue like a sailor, does not make me take heed or prove to me that you are someone to reckon with.  This is very simplistic thinking...let's elevate ourselves.
4. "S-way" (Subway).  No judgement towards others on this one.  I just can't stand this eatery.  I even have a hard time saying the word or looking in the direction of the place.  To me, the smell is horendous and it is imprinted in my nose and memory for the entire rest of the day.  I get nauseous.
5.  People who are "stuck up" and believe that they are better than others, or lack compassion for others.  According to the science classes I've taken, we all pretty much have the same basic physiological makeup.  And, a silver spoon or advanced education (trust me on this one) do not change this.
6. Unecessary Drama--especially adults, who behave like school-age children--bickering, becoming physical, and discontinuing friendships simply because other friends have fallen out with cerain people.  Let's graduate, please.  Adulthood is supposed to be characterized by maturity, but it's obvious that physical growth does not necessitate mental growth.
7. Discourteous Customer Service.  As someone who has worked in different forms of customer service (including as a waittress, phone solicitor, and cashier) , I believe I have authority to speak liberally here.  Leave your problems at home.  It IS your job to provide a pleasant atmosphere to your customers.  If this proves to be too difficult, might I suggest you try another type of employment or a break?
8. Discourteous Customers.  Especially in regards to waiters/waittresses...they are the front persons for whatever is going on in the kitchen---not necessarily the ones at fault when your order comes back incorrect.  It's often a thin line walked, where you don't want to upset your customers, as you depend on their happiness (see below for why), but at the same time you don't want to make the cook upset by saying the wrong thing or not putting things delicately when a customer's dissatisfied.  Reason being is that an upset cook can (and I've seen this) purposely sabotage your orders--thus making future customers unhappy as well, and thus limiting your earnings/tips.  Additionally, most waiters/waittresses have multiple tasks behind the scenes (stocking supplies, etc.) that are required in between the time that they take and deliver your order.  Please keep these things in mind the next time you dine and are tempted to give your server attitude and be a little more forgiving of the memory lapses.
9. Non-tippers.  As a former waittress, I am personally passionate about tipping.  What most people do not realize is that waittressing is one of the lowest paid proffesions.  Most, are paid less than minimum wage and make up the difference through tips...some even have to divide whatever they make at the end of the day with other workers (i.e. , bartenders) in the restaurant.  If you can't afford to tip something (a dollar here and there goes a long way), consider take-out or drive-thru--or at least be kind to your server.
 10. TBC (to be continued)... What are your pet peeves?

Oh I so hate it when people call me hun!! Its like: Please...I do not know you! I hate rude Customer service people especially cause I used to work in the field (Bank teller and such). But that leads to rude customers. I always try to be nice cause I know what the people aregoing through. Working with the public is so hard.

Umm...pet peeves not on the list? People who spend too much money on clothes then complain they have no money.
